Speed Up Your Computer – How To Fix Your PC’s Registry Errors

August 15, 2010 By: lilybird Category: Software

System registry is a place where your PC records all of the files and information that makes it work. It tells your PC what your setting are, what programs are on your PC, where to find those programs, how to open them, and many other essentials. As your system gets older, your registry gets overloaded with errors and pieces from uninstalled programs. This makes it tougher for your system to find the files it needs to do tasks, making your system slower and more prone to errors. If you are experiencing such problems, here are some things you can do to help speed up your computer.

Run “Disk Defragmentation”, this is found in the “Control Panel”. This can help speed up your computer because it organizes the system registry, so your computer can locate the information it needs faster.

Try using a Registry Cleaner. Registry Cleaners scan your registry for errors and fix them. Different registry cleaners have different abilities so you have to choose wisely, based on the condition of your registry, so I recommend doing some research so that you get the best registry cleaner for your needs. The good thing is that even if you get a registry cleaner that doesn’t have the ability to get rid of every single error in your registry, it will at least tell you exactly what they are and where to find them. This information will be useful in the next technique.

If everything else fails, you can always do it yourself (or, if you are not very good with computers, ask someone else to help you). Open the “start” menu. Click on the “Run” application. Type in “regedit”, this will open a program called “Registry Editor” that helps you edit the system registry. Before you start tinkering with the registry, make a back up, in case something happens, by clicking “file” (a drop down menu will appear), click on “export”, type in the name that you will not forget for your back up file and click “save”. The Registry Editor’s window consists of 2 parts. Use the small left part, that has folders in it, and the information about the location of the error that you got after running your registry cleaner to locate and either delete the corrupt file or replace it.

As you can see fixing the registry can be a pain. Which is why it is important to always maintain your computer and, in the case somehting does go wrong, have a top registry cleaner in hand so that you don’t have to try going through this process yourself.
